More About Podcast Production

What does a podcast production company do?

Many podcast editing services or podcast production companies will take your raw audio production which you likely figured out how to record on your own in the first place, hand it over to a podcast editor that likely taught themselves how to use a free digital audio workstation like GarageBand, and then ask them to meet a 24 hour turnaround time which means they have to dash through your episode and barely listen to it. You’ll likely get an episode back that is edited and assembled with your music and other episode elements and sound marginally better than what you sent to them in the first place. Emerald City Productions will first teach you how to record and make sure you have the right equipment for your voice and your specific recording location. And we will tweak how you record until we get the highest quality recording to start with. Your recording will then be passed on to your dedicated audio editor who works on your show each week. Your editor is a full-time professional audio engineer who usually has a background in music or radio production and has been personally trained in podcast production and audio editing by one of our experienced audio engineers. Our overall turnaround time is 4 – 5 days so our audio editors have at least 48 hours to work their magic on your episode. They use their experience in podcast production to make sensible and authentic choices as they edit. We then pass your episode onto a professional content copywriter who either listens to your episode or reads the transcript and crafts show notes that provide a synopsis, key points, and the resources you mentioned in the episode, in addition to any marketing copy included as part of your package. Then, your dedicated project manager creates, schedules, and publishes anything that is included as part of your package. Our Operations Manager oversees this entire team. You will not find another podcast production agency where you have at least 4 to 5 people paying attention to your episode every week.

How much do podcast production companies charge?

You can find podcast editing as inexpensive as $20/episode if you take a look on Fiverr or UpWork. Podcast editing from a trained editor can start as low as $40/hour in many locations. Most podcast production companies like us will offer packages that cover a certain number of episodes each month and vary in the range of services offered. They can also price services a la carte. Most monthly packages start around $300 – $500 per month. Our production packages range from $600 – $2400 per month and reflect the higher level of professional on our team and the level of customer experience that we provide to our clients.

What is a podcasting company?

A podcasting company like Emerald City Productions allows you to stay in your lane and bring in experts in production and podcast marketing to help you create and produce a podcast on a regular schedule. Companies like us combine podcast editors, post production engineers, copywriters, graphic designers, and project managers to get your episode produced on a schedule that keeps you consistent. You record your intro outro, main content, etc and then the podcast company does the rest. You send in your audio files and your dedicated production team takes over. The copywriter transcribes your episode and writes show notes and other copy. The graphic designer and project manager create collateral, do some video editing, and upload and publish your episodes to a hosting platform.

What does it take to produce a podcast?

Time, tech, and a focused idea. If you decide to produce a podcast yourself, be prepared to spend at least 2 – 3 hours each week working on it. Be prepared to learn about signal flow and microphones and recording levels and EQ and hi-pass filters. Take significant time to focus your idea so that you are reaching the right audience with the right keywords and in all of the places. At Emerald City Productions, you get a team that handles most of this stuff for you. Besides taking care of most of the time commitment and tech hurdles, you get trusted advisers who help you learn all the things you need to know in creating great content.

What is a good budget to have in place to launch a professional sounding podcast?

Launching a professional sounding podcast means having a qualified team of professionals on your side helping you along the way. You get a professionally produced podcast created soup to nuts, done for you when you work with Emerald City Productions. Our launch packages start around $2000 if you need help with branding, content, production, and publishing and include 2 – 3 episodes. If you would like more episodes included up front and might need a website built, plan on a budget closer to $5000.
